Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How Many Companies are there in the Aviation Insurance Marketplace

As of 2012 there are over 15 companies offering Aviation Insurance Coverage in the United States as an addmitted carrier.

  • How is my policy rated?

Your underwriter will look at different criteria and that criteria varies based upon which company is looking at your coverage. But the general criteria that they will use is

    Crew Qualification

    Area of Operations

    Planned Uses

    Loss History

    Contract Pilots

Liability Limits (Some Companies may not be able to offer the limits you need)

    Aircraft Age

  • Why does it matter how old the aircraft is?

The underwriters have determined that the older the aircraft is the more risk is involved in insuring that aircraft. For example, a 25 year old aircraft has had thousands of cycles and the pressure vessel has been expanded and contracted thousands of times and that inherently results in more maintenance to maintain the aircraft. While in an ideal world as long as you maintain the aircraft to FAA & Manufacturers specifications it should last forever, but we all know that metal fatigue and failures can happen even with the best preventative maintenance and with older aircraft the chance of that happening increases so some insurance companies choose to limit how old the aircraft can be before they decline to offer coverage.

  • If we are flying to Europe will my policy cover me?

Possibly, It depends on the territory coverage of your policy. Additionally they have a minimum liability limit that must be carried by all aircraft depending on your maximum takeoff weight.

  • Do you handle workers compensation for my pilots?

Yes, but we only handle workers compensation for our Corporate Clients and Commercial Operators. No stand alone policies.
